LILLY PULITZER THE AMBASSADOR OF HAPPINESS
Ever since I was little, I was always attracted to anything fun, girly, and colorful. Later on, as I grew up and started my shoe company as well as my event styling boutique (Party Magic), this “core” personality of mine naturally came out through the design of my events and shoes. Perhaps this was one of the main reasons why I was drawn to children’s parties in the first place, and not weddings!
Being happy never goes out of style.
-Lilly Pulitzer
Prior to this post, I talked about my hero, Cath Kidston. For this post, I want to show you another party I did which was inspired by another hero of mine, the great Lilly Pulitzer:
Erin’s Lilly’s Pulitzer-inspired stage. (thank you Happy Folks Studio for these photos!)
What do you think? :)
I am so grateful to Angela, my client, who specifically requested this theme. I would be the first to admit that I haven’t really thought of Lilly Pulitzer as a theme for a child’s party, so when I first heard it from Angela, I immediately thought, why didn’t I think of that before? Because as you will see below, this theme has so many possibilities:
We custom-made these super cute foldable chairs with matching bright prints. It’s so easy to imagine myself lying down there and drinking some cool lemonade!
Whenever I think of Lilly Pulitzer, I always have that image of summer in the sun and watermelons. Hence, the big ass watermelon on the stage:
Not to mention, pineapples:
Lilly is so much fun to style, because there are many things you can do, like insert these Lilly quotes into the stage setup:
I love Lilly not only because of her colorful, summer prints, but mostly because of her philosophy. These two, her signature look and her philosophy, comes hand in hand and defines the person she is:
LILLY PULITZER: A FRESHER TAKE ON THE SUMMER CONCEPT
If your daughter’s birthday is coming up and you’d like a fresher take on the whole “summer”, “picnic” or “sunshine and lemonade” concept, a nice theme to consider would be Lilly Pulitzer. I find this theme more modern and dynamic given the fact that Lilly’s brand not just spans fashion but also the arts as well.
Take, for example, what we did for the photo area:
We made a mini sort of “living room” concept (if your living room is part indoors and part beach, that is). Everything is supposed to be light, airy, with a certain frivolous flair to it. Seating such as the light blue beach chair in the middle and those cute blue and pink inflatables are provided for that perfect family portrait! I love how those white lights ended up, too.
THE CEILING: A SUMMER IN THE SKY
The ceiling is always the hardest and trickiest part. Not only does it require the most number of props and hanging objects, but you have to customize the exact shade of the swags too. This time around, I think I nailed it right with this most unusual combination of light blue and watermelon-pink, adorned with light blue hulahoops, hanging foliage, ribboned lanterns, and those ultra-cute hot pink umbrellas!
LILLY’S WARM WELCOME ENTRANCE
How would Lilly welcome guests to her function? Maybe by standing beside this entrance set-up:
I hung a few Lilly quotes on the walls too just so people could get a feel for her personality and the overall mood of the party:
The official hashtag for the party was: #ITSANEXTRAORDINERINDAY. So cute and creative!
THE DESSERT TABLE
The dessert table maintains the feel of the theme, with wonderful pastry creations such as these:
Flamingos abound in another masterful creation of Lovely Jiao of Sugarplum Pastries. Bravo!
Lovely of Sugarplum, the creator of these sweets, is a real stickler for detail. Just take a look at those palm trees and flowers!
Angela’s package with Lovely includes this stunning ombre cake, so wistfully romantic!
How cute are those flowered macaroons!
Pineapple cake pops. Who could’ve thought that cake pops could be made upside down?
And lastly, these Lilly-patterned cookies!
ERIN’S LILLY DAY
Every time I look at Erin’s photos, I feel nothing but happiness, which I hope Angela, Erin and family felt too on this special day. The happiest of birthdays to you, sweet Erin!
Love,
Michelle
